about the virgin

For the sake of some consistency, coming at you every Monday and Thursday with a sprinkling in between. Look out for Friday’s ‘laugh of the day’ picture, and send me one if you want to be featured :)

I have recently completed a two-year in-Asia teaching fellowship through Oberlin Shansi Memorial Foundation. During that time, I was lucky enough to travel throughout Southeast Asia, get to know the fabulous city of Yogyakarta in central Java, and hang out with some of Indonesia’s brightest young college students while teaching at Gadjah Mada University. Now that my contract is over, I’ll be returning to the US and eventually moving to Queens… and that’s about as far as my plan goes. Anything is possible.

For the scoop on the blog title and theme, see my original post “the virgin” or read the excerpt below:

And so, I’m calling this ‘the virgin journal’, not out of any reference to my personal sex life (sorry Carrie Bradshaw fans, you might have to wait until I’m–yikes–thirty for that blog), but in reflection of how every day from now on will be like stepping onto virgin earth, unknown territory. In fact, I should have called my blog that from the beginning, since what could be more cherry-popping than moving to a country whose language I did not speak, and to whose culture I was not accustomed. But I think the “homecoming” will have it’s own set of learning experiences; while I’m returning to a somewhat familiar place, I’m returning as a somewhat different person.
